An Open Letter to ALL the People Who Have Made Annoying Remarks About Me Being Homeschooled, You Still Haven’t Gotten Any Smarter.

Dear people who have no right to make remarks,

Thank you! I appreciate it, to say the least. Every time you speak you bestow kindness upon my situation and lifestyle. Every time you ponder on the next comment to make to me, I wait patiently, excited to see what foolishness might fall out of your mouth next.

I don’t mean to be rude, let alone denigrate the amount of energy it takes to contradict my choice of schooling. But with the time it must take you to articulate wrecking-ball messages to break down my fortresses of confidence, I have no other choice but to address you without losing my integrity.

I would like to start with my all-time favorite remarks. Please take a minute to pause at each one, as laughing is encouraged.

“So, how was schoooooooool today?”

- some lovely acquaintance.

“Is it really school if it is on a computer?”

- some sweet adult

“So what time do you wake up?”

- a fan favorite

“Ya, but you don’t really do school-school!”

- a special one to uplift the soul.

To address these for those who always wanted an answer, here are my responses:

“School was GREAT, I finally finished my calculus homework… but you can imagine how hard that must have been.”

“Well, technically we all do school on computers now, don’t we, so really it is a matter of opinion… but you might be too old to understand.”

“I get a solid 8 to 10 hours. Does that help?”

“So what do you do, school-school-school?”

I don’t think I can begin to describe how thoughtful it is to be helped on a daily basis to understand that what I learn is not “valid”. But I wonder, in the long run, where will you end up in life? My hope is somewhere that brings you happiness, and when you see me, you will see someone who didn’t let your remarks stop them from moving forward in life.

So thank you, thank you for being my biggest fan!

P.S. Quick question, did you ever ACTUALLY graduate?
